| River Guide Information |
We recruit new river guides in January and February each year.
Prospective guides submit an application to the Kings River Expeditions office
and interview either in person or over the phone. All interviews are conducted
March 13-14 on the Fresno State University campus. No experience is
necessary to become a river guide. You must be physically fit, 18 or older, and
enjoy the outdoors and being around people. All guide training is provided free
of charge. |

office at least a couple of days before your interview. |

The interview: Call the Kings River Expeditions office
(1-800-846-3674) and schedule an interview March 4-5. |

Whitewater
Guide School (part 1): After step two, we will select a group to join us for a
weekend of rafting and guide training on the Kings River on March 15-16.

Whitewater Guide School (part 2): After step three, we will
select a group to continue training. The guide school will include three more
days of on-river training March 20-22. All meals, instructional
materials, river and camping equipment (except sleeping bags) will be provided
at no charge for the duration of the school. Candidates will learn fundamentals
of river navigation and the basic operation of Kings River Expeditions.
Guide positions will be selected on a probationary basis from those
completing the Whitewater Guide School. |
| Additional Training |
Guides chosen from the Whitewater Guide School, guides will
advance to a second stage of training which will include weekends in April and
May. First-year guides can be paid for some of this training depending on their
skill in handling a boat and crew. |
| Salaries and Benefits |
First-year guides will earn $70 a day. Meals are provided for all
staff for the length of the season. River guides live in tents in our camp
during the season. There is no camping or housing charge. Full-time guides also
receive a set of staff clothing and guest passes for river trips. You
will need to provide your own tent, sleeping bag, wetsuit, paddle jacket and
diving boots for the season. Kings River Expeditions will provide equipment at
wholesale prices. You can earn additional
money with a Class B driver's license. |
| General Information |
Our commercial season opens for weekend-only business in
mid-April. We begin full-time operation in June. Our season will end around
August 1, although this date can vary up to four weeks in either direction
depending on the snowpack and the weather. We are licensed by the
Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to provide beer and wine to all guests 21 and
over. Staff (21 and over) are welcome to enjoy a beer or two with guests.
However, drunkenness and/or drunkenly behavior is not permitted.
River guides live in tents in Twin Pines Camp during the season. Our camp has
comfortable dining and restroom facilities, but no electricity, showers,
telephones or permanent facilities. |
| Interviews |
It is up to you to call and schedule an interview. Allow about 25
minutes 15 minutes to complete a questionnaire and 10 minutes for the
actual interview. Appointments can be made by calling Anna Marie at (559)
233-4881. Interviews will be conducted
March 3-4 on the Fresno State University campus, from 2-6 pm. A telephone
interview can be scheduled if you are from outside the Fresno County area and
cannot make the drive for the interview. Be sure to have your
completed application in our office before your scheduled interview. You can
